Hi Everyone,
Our next challenge doesn't end until the end of December, so I thought I'd post the pieces that have thus far been entered. Aren't they amazing? I love this challenge.

Vote Now for Your 3 Favorite 3-Dimensional Pieces
Hi Everyone,
It's that time again. I'm not so crazy about the flying-of-the-time, but I guess that's just too bad for me. :-)
We received 42 fanTAStic entries in the 3-Dimensional Challenge. To get a closer look at them click here.
Voting is open from December 1 through December 7. The three favorites will be announced December 8. The top favorite will receive a $25 gift certificate from our sponsor Tile Shack. Thank you, Tammy!
Please email me at millimomo@gmail.com with your three favorite 3-Dimensional pieces. You're welcome to vote for less than three, but please let me know if you're doing so on purpose, or I'll be forced to harrass you relentlessly trying to get those final votes. ;-)
As always, feel free to email me with any comments, questions or suggestions. This is a group for all of us who love mosaic art.

Peacock Photo Interpretation Favorites
Hi Everyone,
Wow - what a tight race it was when the votes for the Peacock Photo Interpretation Challenge started coming in! All nine pieces were extraordinary, so it's really no surprise that each one received so many votes.
The photo that the artists interpreted was taken by Carol Shelkin, Artist_Mama ~ Carol on Flickr. Carol picked the challenge after winning the Monochromatic Challenge.
The hilarious thing is that Carol went on to create the favorite interpretation!
Meet Seigneur by Artist_Mama ~ Carol
Here are the runners up in alphabetical order.
"Pablo Peacocksso" by Tish/Artish71
"A Different View of a Peacock" by Ulrike/UllyBby
The challenge ending next is "3-Dimensional". The deadline is this Sunday, November 30. Check in again tomorrow to see what's been entered so far.
Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!

Favorite Swirls Announced!
Hi Everyone,
The favorite swirl votes have all been tallied. For awhile during the counting I was worried we would end up with a 14-way tie, but three favorites finally floated to the top.
The number one favorite swirl was "Knot A Swirl" made by Lin Schorr (Linlee8 on Flickr).
Incidentally, Lin is organizing the donation of the "Swirl Quilt" and assembling it. She'll also be putting together a book with all our swirls and the assembled quilt on Blurb.
Here are our two beautiful runner-up swirls in alphabetical order.
"Happiness Is" by Carol (Artist_Mama on Flickr)
"Swirly Bird" by Crystal (CrystalThomas on Flickr)
And, one more time, here's a look at all of the swirls together. For a closer look, click here.

Time to Vote for Your Three Favorite Swirls!
Hey Everyone,
Wow, people made 61 swirls for Challenge #8 - "Swirl/Swirls on a 6 inch square, flat surface", and every single one is unique and gorgeous. Together, they're amazing, and I can't wait to see them all put together in Lin Schorr's final vision.
In the meantime, here they are in a mosaic of mosaics.
Please visit them on the Flickr site - here - and email me with your three favorites. You may vote through November 7, and the favorites will be announced November 8.

What's Happening In the Peacock Photo Interpretation Challenge?
Hi Everyone,
One of our current challenges (Challenge #9) is Peacock Photo Interpretation using a photo taken by Artist_Mama, Carol Shelkin.
This challenge ends November 15, 2008.
Here is the original peacock photo taken by Carol Shelkin:
I love Ba1Je's interpretation. Glass on glass is always a favorite of mine - especially in these gorgeous colors.
And here's the interpretation by Artist_Mama Carol Shelkin - that's right, the photographer! :-) Carol was (and is) a painter, and I'm constantly amazed at the way she is able to "paint" with glass.
I'm sure we'll have many more interpretations added to the challenge before the deadline. I can't wait to see them!
Happy windy Sunday!

Swirls Challenge
Hello Everyone!
Sorry it's been so long since I posted anything here, but life was a little crazy there for a month or two.
I just wanted to post some photos of the finished swirls for the Swirl Challenge which will be ending October 31.
Challenge Guidelines: The swirl is to be on a 6 inch by 6 inch square, flat surface. Artists are invited to finish their swirls and keep them for themselves, or to do them on mesh and send them to Lin Schorr (Linlee8 on Flickr).
Lin plans to display the swirls at her show next fall. The hope is that someone will want to purchase the Swirl "Quilt", and the proceeds will go to a charity to be determined.
Additionally, she plans to put together a small book on the entire process. It's very exciting!
Be sure to check out Lin's achingly gorgeous work on her website: Lin Schorr Mixed Media Mosaics
It's not too late to make a swirl of your own. For details on the Swirl Challenge, you're welcomed to write to me at Millimomo@gmail.com, or you can check here and here for details and discussions.
To see the photos up close and personal and learn about the artists, click here.
Won't they be beautiful all together?
Have a great day, Everyone!

Exciting Swirl Talk
Hi Everyone,
As you recall, Lin (Linlee8 on Flickr) picked the challenge "Swirl / Swirls on a Six Inch Square Flat Surface" which ends October 31, 2008.
Shortly after we announced it, Lin had the cool idea of creating the swirls on mesh and donating them to a worthy cause. Click here to see the discussion.
Since then Lin has had an even more exciting idea for the swirls: a book!
She ran this past me, and I love the idea. I think it will give us ALL an opportunity to see our art in print!
You all have the option of not having your piece in the book, just like you have the option of simply doing a swirl and keeping it for yourself. whatever you'd like to do is fine.
If you do like the idea of a book and donating your swirl to a cause, then by all means - the more swirls the merrier. Please make as many as you'd like. Also, if you're donating a swirl, remember that it needs to be done on fiberglass mesh (details in the discussion mentioned above).
Here's what Lin has to say about the book:
***********************************************************************
If I happen to get a lot of swirl mosaics for the mural/panel
piece...I would like to document them and the making of the panel in a small (?) blurb-book.
I think that having a book of the panel/mural and it's making process
and your own featured swirl with ID would be fun to have even if it didn't get tied to a donation.
The book would be purchased directly from Blurb.com at cost as It doesn't have to have any profit attached to it right now. Then if the piece gets donated somewhere that the book can be an asset I can attach a profit for a certain period of time to go to that organization.
This would also require a release from you to allow me to photograph / publish / distribute the photo-book. When you contact MilliMoMo/Lynne or myself for the address to send your swirls we can send back the release. At which point you can print/sign & send with your swirl(s) I know this kinda thing can make some people nervous...the artist retains copyright of their art, but allows me to photograph / publish / distribute the book.

A Little Peek at the "Black and White" Entries...
Hi Everyone,
I thought I'd send you a little peek at the entries we've received so far for the Black and White challenge which ends September 30. Don't you just want them ALL??? Me too!
This particular challenge doesn't have a prize associated with it (aside from the accolades and admiration of mosaic fans everywhere!), because it was part of the Flickr Mosaic Challenge before I combined groups.
All challenge winners after this one, along with the "Reflections of..." challenge also ending September 30, WILL receive a prize.
Please do not vote for these now. Voting won't begin until October 1, and I'm sure we'll have many more gorgeous entries by then.
However, if all of the recent political mumbo jumbo has given you an overpowering urge to vote for something, ANYTHING, then please check out the Pots and email me at Millimomo@gmail.com with your favorite.
Happy Mosaicing!

Changes at Blogger Mosaic Challenge
Hi Everyone,
After using Blogger for this group for a little over a month, I've decided to combine it with the Mosaic Challenge Group on Flickr.
Both venues have their strengths, and this blog will continue, but Flickr offers easy photo loading and open communication between members of the group: things that I feel are important to an active and fun group.
I will continue to post photos of challenge pieces in this blog as well as other photos of interest. However, to submit works to the challenges I'm asking that you use Flickr and add your photos to the Mosaic Challenge group by setting up a free account with Flickr.
The other difference will be that you'll need to go to a link to see all the completed challenge pieces in one place when it's time to vote. However, I'll be posting the individual pieces here in Blogger as they're submitted.
Like any other site, Flickr does have a learning curve, but people seem to love it once they've poked around a little bit.
If you are interested in submitting photos and have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to comment on one of these posts or email me directly at Millimomo@gmail.com. I am happy to help.
Thanks Everyone.

Favorite Mosaic by Tish
Hello Lovely Mosaicists,
Meet "Carriera" made by Tish! (Artish71 on Flickr)
She's Tish's favorite self-made mosaic, and I can see why. She's incredibly exotic. I especially love that her bottom is mosaiced, and the little flower is such a sweet addition.
Tish, thank you so much for sending in photos of Carriera!
**********************************************************************************
I'd love to post more of your favorite mosaics (made by you), so please keep the photos coming, and tell me why your piece is your favorite.
Have a great day, Everyone!
