Kim's "Pot" - WIP

Hello Dear Mosaicists,

Kim ("PanacheMosaics" on Flickr) sent in a work-in-progress photo of her "Pot Challenge" entry.

As you know, these challenges have very few guidelines - they're open to your interpretation - and this is a great example of that. Kim isn't actually making a pot; she's using a broken decorative pot to make something else.

She asked me if this qualified, and I told her I felt it did. Now, if the challenge was "monochromatic", and the item was clearly multiple colors, that would be a different situation. I will handle these things on a case by case basis, and I'm always open to your opinions on these things.

In the end, it's up to you, the voters. At the end of the month you get to pick your favorite piece, and if you don't think a piece is appropriate for the challenge, then you should not vote for it.

Please enjoy Kim's piece, and check out the rest of her work on her Flickr photostream and on her website.

Have a great weekend, Everyone!

Lynne

Caz' Pot Entry

Hi Happy Mosaicers,

Caz ("Caz.Kovacs" on Flickr) sent in a wip and completed photo of her Cinderella pot, which she is entering in the Pot Challenge. I love the sweet colors she used in it.

Thanks a bunch, Caz!

Pot Challenge Entry by Cindi B

Hi Everyone!

Cindi B has been kind enough to share her completed pot with us. Thank you to Cindi! I love this interpretation of "Pot". :-)

I'd like to share everyone's work as it's completed (and WIP - work in progress - photos are encouraged too!). Then at the end of the month I'll put out another post with the photos of everyone's work in it for ease of voting.

Sheri's Favorite Mosaic

Hello Everyone,

Thank you to Sheri, "Broken Glass Mosaics" on Flickr, for sending her favorite mosaic. This is one of my favorites too. I love the expressions on the giraffes' faces.

Sheri says, "My favorite piece to date is my giraffe panel. I titled the piece, "The Herd". I made it for my two sons when they were ages 3 and 1. Inspiration for the piece came from their bedroom which was decorated as an African Safari and I also have a personal fondness for giraffes. As the piece came along, each giraffe seemed to develop their own personality. The piece makes me smile each time I look at it, reminding me of sweet and innocent times."

I have been admiring Sheri's work on Flickr lately. She really has a distinct style that I love.

Finished Pot? Finished Reflections? How About WIP's?

Good Morning!

I understand that some of you have finished your pots. Great job! At the end of the month I'll include them all in a single post to make voting easier.

In the meantime, please send me a link or photo of your finished project ("Pot" or "Reflections of") so that I can start a draft of the final post.

I plan to post photos of your finished projects as I receive them, but if you'd rather I wait until the final voting post, just let me know that when you send it.

Also, if you have any WIP photos, please send those in. Everyone loves a good WIP photo or 20! :-)

And lastly, I'm worried about this Blog slipping through the cracks, so I'd like to put together a mailing list. The only emails I will send will be reminders to check the blog at important times for updates like: 1) submitting your finished project 2) reminders to vote 3) announcement of the winner 4) announcement of the new challenge - so four emails a month. I will send these emails out blind carbon copy, so there will be no risk of you being spammed to death because of this email. If you'd like to be on the list (and I strongly encourage it, because it also helps me gauge interest), please send your email address to me at: millimomo@gmail.com.

So, let me recap (since I tend to blab on)
  1. Send me a link or photo of your work as soon as you have it. I'll post them unless you ask me not to.
  2. Send me WIP photos to share.
  3. Send me your email address for BCC announcement emails only. Millimomo@gmail.com

I hope everyone's doing great! Looking forward to your photos!

My Favorite Mosaic

Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. I'm still in the process of moving. Most of the stuff left is - what else? - mosaic supplies!

I am all out of favorite mosaics from others, so I thought I'd post my own favorite mosaic made by me. It's called "Lily Pads" and is an abstract interpretation of lily pads in water. I used stained glass, mirror and glass gems on a ten inch candle plate from Ikea (do they have the best substrates or what?).

It's my favorite mosaic, because I love the colors and the sparkle from the mirror tiles and gems. I'm also proud of it, because it's my first serious mosaic.

My mosaics can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/millimomo/collections/72157601555093461/.

Lori's Favorite Mosaic

Hi Everyone!

Please take a look at Lori's favorite mosaic made by her: "Tale of Two Futures". This is one of those pieces that I can just look at forever.

Looking at this piece, it's hard to believe that she's fairly new to mosaic. Lori partially explains it as follows: "Dorothy sat, contemplating the ruins of her world. War, corruption, and indifference had brought about a poverty not seen in decades. Not only the monetary kind of poverty, but one that brought desolation to the spirit of her people. As the powerful storm brewed behind her, floodwaters threatened to overwhelm the dam, a reminder of the destruction of Wicked Katrina's reign. Dorothy felt pulled to get off the wall. Utopia was right around the corner."

This is Lori's favorite "because of the passion I felt creating it! It's not so much the end product as it was the journey of the design, and the learning process I went through
trying to extrude my vision into a tangible form. (especially, with a deadline!!!!)"

Many thanks to Lori for sending in this intriguing mosaic. To see more of her mosaics, please visit her Flickr site at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/photocraftic/

Now I have to go back for another look.

Pauline Gallagher's Favorite Mosaic

Hi Everyone!

Hope you're having a fabulous Saturday. It's a beautiful, sunny day in Omaha, and although it's hot, no one has warned us that our plants might spontaneously combust like they warned of last weekend, so that's a big plus.

Pauline Gallagher has sent in a photo of her favorite mosiac "Nautilus", and it is divine. Just look at that beautiful glass. It almost seems to glow.

Pauline completed it several years ago as an intended donation to a local charity auction, and says, "The inspiration for the piece was a sliced Nautilus shell which I borrowed from a friend. I used Sicis iridiscent glass tile in many shades of black, white and gold (a new material for me at that time). The tiles were adhered to an 18 inch diameter light weight Ikea bamboo bowl.

One of the reasons it is still a favorite of mine is that it showed me, early in my mosaic career, that I had the capability of creating a fine piece of mosaic art and gave me the confidence to continue."

Thank you so much for sending this in, Pauline!

Caz K's Favorite Mosaic

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Thank you to Caz, for sending a photo and information about her favorite mosaic made by her: "Starry Night".
Caz says, "It was the first piece I made using fibre glass mesh and the largest.
I made this picture in 4 pieces using ceramic tiles I had bought and others had given me.
It was also the first piece I used my wet saw to cut out the small pieces.
My husband, Atti, made the frame for it, and it proudly hangs in my family room.
My favourite colour is blue, and this picture has a lot of blues matching the walls and furniture in my home."

Caz is a master with her wet saw, and it's universally agreed upon that she's the Queen of Pots (gorgeous mosaiced pots). I remember when Caz posted this in the Mosaic Addicts group. I've always loved this painting, and mosaics, so I thought this interpretation was amazing.
